One afternoon, when the Texas sun was fierce, we found refuge under the oak canopy. The leafy branches of the ancient oaks shading the entire resort create dappled sunlight and a natural cooling effect.

We rolled out a picnic blanket, read, snoozed, and even held a nap time for youngest ones in a hammock tied between two oaks. It felt like being in a treehouse world.

Later, I made iced cucumber-mint water (sliced cucumber, mint leaves, chilled water) and popped out blueberry muffins I’d prepared earlier to enjoy in that cool shade. I watched squirrels scamper above and listened to cicadas in the distance.

Shade + nature + calm = one of my most peaceful vacation moments ever.
