One afternoon, a squall rolled in off the Gulf. We could see sheets of rain in the distance. But instead of sulking, we turned it into a fun “rainy day” plan.

We gathered in the spacious clubhouse (an amenity at Majestic Oak) and spread out board games, coloring supplies, and puzzles. (We always travel with a “rain box” — a few small games or art supplies just for this.)

I also decided to bake — using the clubhouse’s microwave (if it’s allowed; check with management) or our RV’s oven — a pan of cinnamon swirl coffee cake. The aroma drifting through the space brought everyone over. The kids played checkers on a fold-out table, my mother-in-law knitted, and folks shared coffee and cake with each other.

By late afternoon, the rain had passed, and we were ready to head out again — but with smiles and new friends we’d made in the clubhouse.
