I woke early (as usual), tiptoed past sleeping children, and headed down to the water. Majestic Oak is just minutes from Redfish Bay and nearby inlets where kayaking and canoeing are popular. I launched a single kayak at sunrise, paddled through glassy blue water, and felt the hush of the morning before anyone else stirred in camp.

Back at camp, I brewed a rich pot of coffee (we carry a small French press) and made banana-oat pancakes for the kids: mashed banana + oats + egg + a splash of milk, cooked on a griddle. Meanwhile, my husband and I sipped coffee on the picnic table under oaks, watching squirrels dart about.

Later, we invited older folks in our group (my in-laws) to join a slow nature walk on the resort’s shaded paths. At that pace, everyone — including grandparents — felt comfortable. We spotted birds and shady trails and chatted about plans for the day.
